The Government Subdelegation in Tarragona will carry out a nuclear emergency drill on Monday, April 27, which will include sending test alerts to approximately 30,000 mobile phones in five municipalities.

The exercise, scheduled for 11:00 AM, aims to test the effectiveness of the mass public alert system ES-Alert. This tool is considered crucial due to its speed and widespread dissemination capability in the event of a real nuclear accident.
The drill will focus on an area within a 10-kilometer radius around the Vandellòs II nuclear power plant. The affected municipalities will be Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Mont-roig del Camp, L'Ametlla de Mar, Pratdip, and Tivissa, which together have an approximate population of 30,000 inhabitants.
For the first time, citizens within this area will directly receive a notification on their mobile devices. The message will clearly state that it is a test, so no action will be required, nor will it be necessary to contact emergency services.
The preparation for this drill has been coordinated by the Civil Protection Unit of the Government Subdelegation in Tarragona, with the collaboration of Catalan Civil Protection, the Government Delegation in Catalonia, and the involved municipalities. After the exercise, information will be collected to evaluate the system's performance and its actual reach among the population.
