The Tarragona City Council has declared three days of official mourning from Saturday until Monday following the deaths of two minors who drowned in a rocky area of Cova del Gos beach.

During this period, flags will fly at half-mast, and official institutional events organized by the council are suspended. Additionally, on Sunday at 12 PM, a minute of silence will be observed at the Palau Municipal, in plaça de la Font, in mourning for the young victims.
The incident occurred on Friday when a group of six youths were swimming in the Cova del Gos area under a yellow flag. Despite difficulties due to the waves, three of the minors managed to exit the water, but the other three had to be rescued. A 12-year-old boy drowned, and two 13-year-olds were evacuated in critical condition to the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona, one of whom has since died. Thus, there are two fatalities: a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old.
The rocky area where the six youths were swimming, located between Arrabassada beach and Miracle beach, was outside the lifeguards' coverage and visibility.

"The sea is dangerous; all safety measures must be taken, and unnecessary risks avoided. One should never jump from the rocks."
