The Councilor for Public Cleaning, Sonia Orts, has highlighted that the main objective of this initiative is to improve the management of green waste, prevent improper dumping in the streets, avoid overflowing containers, and consequently, enhance the city's overall appearance.
The new collection system will operate on an appointment basis and will utilize reusable 'big-bag' sacks of one cubic meter, as well as tied bundles of branches. Collections will be carried out sector by sector, following a plan similar to that of mobile waste collection points. Specifically, in the neighborhoods of La Savinosa, Cala Romana, and Boscos, collection will take place on Saturday afternoons, except on holidays. With the implementation of this model, the current open containers in these areas will be removed.
Residents can request the service through the EPP! mobile application, by calling the green number 977 296 222, or by sending an email to mediambient@tarragona.cat. Once the request is made, the City Council will confirm the collection via SMS or email.
To inform residents, the council has sent communications to affected households and established information points. During the first week, approximately 200 people have visited these locations to receive information and the necessary reusable sacks for the new service.
The information points will be operational in the commercial area of Avinguda Boscos on May 30th and June 1st, 2nd, and 6th; on Carrer del Tennis, opposite the parking lot, on May 30th and June 3rd, 4th, and 6th; and on June 5th on Carrer Tomàs Forteza, within the same parking lot. The operating hours will be Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
