The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has issued a danger warning for intense nocturnal heat, at level 2 out of 6, which will be in effect on Monday 10 and Tuesday August 11, between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM. This alert affects practically the entire province of Tarragona, with the exception of Terra Alta.
This heat episode follows a day marked by high temperatures, with maximums reaching 38 ºC in Tarragonès. The minimum temperatures forecast for the upcoming dawn will not drop below 26 ºC in some areas, and will average around 25 ºC across the province, making nighttime rest difficult.
The situation was already noticeable during Sunday dawn, when temperatures did not drop below 20 ºC in much of Catalonia and exceeded 25 ºC in sections of the coast. In Valls, the recorded minimum was 24.5 ºC, equalling the town's historical record for the last 35 years, set on September 4, 2023.
The nocturnal heat episode will continue over the next few hours, particularly affecting the coastal and pre-coastal areas of Tarragona, where temperatures will take time to drop during the night. The Meteocat warning highlights the tropical and torrid nights being experienced this summer in the province.
