This Wednesday, the first joint meeting was held between the Tarragona City Council, the Generalitat, the Diputació, and representatives of neighborhood entities to establish the Evaluation and Monitoring Committee. This governance body will oversee the deployment of a project that foresees a total investment of 25 million euros.
“"We formalize the start of works that will last for the next five years, with the confidence that deadlines will be met, because the City Council has all the pieces well-structured, and I am convinced that soon the first results will begin to be seen."
The committee, composed of thirteen members, will meet annually to evaluate the 34 planned actions. Although the first year will be mainly dedicated to drafting projects and aid bases, the first actions could begin in 2026, thanks to a 2.4 million euro allocation included in the municipal budget.
Among the first initiatives, the Neighborhood Plan office will be set up, with municipal staff and additional hires, to maintain daily contact with residents and entities. Furthermore, a third body, the citizen council, will be created to foster participation.
A representative of the autonomous administration assured that the Neighborhood Plans will not be affected by the possible lack of Generalitat budgets, as the allocations are guaranteed through a credit modification. However, the 2026 call could be conditioned, as only 200 million euros are secured, an amount that the Government expects to increase with the approval of the budgets.
After the meeting, the mayor of Tarragona expressed confidence that the plan will lead to an «integral transformation» of Barri del Port, with a positive impact on the entire city. The reform of the Fòrum de la Colònia and the recovery of the Unió-Prim-Apodaca axis are two key actions to expand these improvements.
The proposal focuses on reducing inequalities, improving living conditions, and ensuring access to basic services and dignified housing. To achieve this, more than thirty actions are planned, covering physical transformations, ecological transition, and community action, co-financed by the City Council and the Generalitat.
