The city of Tarragona is hosting a major demonstration this Sunday at the Balcó del Mediterrani to demand 24-hour stroke care services at the Joan XXIII Hospital.

The protest, organized by the Public Health Platform, highlights a political rift in the region. While mayors from Valls and Vila-seca joined the march, PSC mayors from Tarragona and Reus declined to participate following recent negotiations with CatSalut.
The Department of Health has committed to expanding the current service to a 12/7 schedule during 2026, but activists insist that only a full 24/7 operation can address the territorial inequality in emergency medical response.

"With the mobilization of the territory and institutional unity, we must make it possible for the Generalitat to move and correct a comparative grievance that has no justification."
