Tarragona City Council will vote this Friday on a motion to act as a prosecutor in criminal proceedings for theft, aiming to combat repeat offenses within the city.

The proposal, promoted by the Junts municipal group, seeks to apply the tools provided by recent national legislation to address repeat criminal behavior. The initiative is supported by the PSC, which leads the local government, and is expected to receive favorable votes from PP representatives.
Meanwhile, the stance of other municipal groups varies. While En Comú Podem has expressed opposition by submitting amendments, Esquerra Republicana has taken a more cautious approach, advocating for strengthened judicial resources and streamlined procedures rather than relying solely on punitive measures.

"We share the concern regarding repeat offenses and thefts affecting commerce, coexistence, and security, but responses must be rigorous, useful, and protective of rights."
