Local groups propose smaller concrete barriers to protect the city's Roman heritage and landscape from visual impact.

The Junts municipal group and the Mercaderies per l'Interior platform have voiced their opposition to Adif's plan to install five-meter-high acoustic screens in Tarragona this February.

The groups argue that these large structures would cause significant visual damage to the city's heritage, particularly near the Roman Amphitheatre. They suggest using 1.35-meter concrete mini-barriers instead, which are cheaper and provide similar noise reduction without blocking views.

"It is an aberration."

On Friday, February 20, the Tarragona City Council will vote on a motion to demand that the Ministry of Transport prioritizes a study to divert freight trains away from the city center. The current Adif project is valued at 12 million euros.
