The Tarragona Water Consortium (CAT) has adapted its Drought Emergency Plan to reflect the new capacity thresholds of the Mequinenza reservoir, as recently revised by the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE).

Detailed topographical studies conducted between September 2022 and June 2024 revealed that the reservoir's actual capacity is 1,372 cubic hectometres, significantly lower than the previous figure of 1,530. This reduction necessitates a downward adjustment of the triggers for emergency measures downstream.
In response, the CAT has allocated 140,000 euros to a new IT platform designed to manage hydrological data more efficiently. This investment aims to streamline decision-making processes during periods of water scarcity in the Tarragona region.
