A hundred teachers blocked the N-240 at the entrance to Tarragona on Thursday, in both directions, as part of a strike day called in the city and the Terres de l'Ebre region.

The protest, which began around 7:30 AM, brought together educators holding protest signs with slogans such as 'No more excuses, pay for the work' and 'We defend public education'. This mobilization is part of the tenth day of protests called by the unions USTEC, Professors de Secundària, CGT, and La Intersindical, following a sectoral table meeting that ended without agreement but with a commitment to continue negotiations.
The USTEC spokesperson for Tarragona acknowledged that the Department of Education has made some moves but believes the proposal on the table lacks substance. However, he positively valued the willingness to negotiate salaries and stressed the importance of maintaining pressure through mobilizations to achieve firm commitments.
The strike day in Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre began with teachers gathering in Doctor Mallafré street, from where they moved to the N-240 blockade point. The main demonstration in Tarragona is scheduled for 11:30 AM from Plaça Imperial Tarraco. The blockade caused traffic jams for hundreds of vehicles, and moments of tension with some drivers were experienced.
Among the slogans chanted by the teachers were 'military budgets for schools and hospitals', 'Niubó, listen, this is a revolt', and 'inclusive school, for your sons and daughters'.
