Since 1983, Vila-seca has been governed by mayors from the convergent tradition. This legacy, started by Joan Maria Pujals and Josep Poblet, is now upheld by Pere Segura, who leads a firm opposition against the ERC and PSC coalitions currently managing the Tarragona Provincial Council.
Political friction is evident in Vila-seca's refusal to join the Association for the Metropolitan Impulse of Camp de Tarragona. Segura argues that the provincial government has shifted its focus toward Tarragona city, neglecting its foundational duty to serve all municipalities equally.
“"The Provincial Council has moved away from its foundational spirit of service to all municipalities, concentrating investment in the city of Tarragona."
Conflicts regarding the location of the future intermodal station and criticisms of the Generalitat's Territorial Master Plan further highlight the divide between Vila-seca and the regional projects promoted by the PSC.
