This approval, which took place on April 22, organizes almost five hectares of land around the old railway line. The area will become the city's largest urban promenade, spanning two linear kilometers from the border with Cambrils to the C-14 highway.
The Civic Axis project anticipates that ninety percent of the space will be dedicated to open areas, featuring extensive green spaces, bike lanes, and parks that will serve as climate refuges. A pedestrian-only promenade, free of vehicular traffic, will be designed to complement the tram's circulation.
The urban planning also includes the creation of a new urban facade, with residential buildings that will incorporate commercial ground floors and an area designated for municipal facilities. In total, up to 144 new apartments are projected, 117 of which will be social housing.
These residential blocks, ranging from five to seven stories, will be distributed in two distinct areas where the layout is wider: one line of buildings will be located on the opposite side of Carles Roig street, and the other, between Sant Jordi square and Cèsar street. Additionally, the project includes the construction of an underground car park with capacity for 500 vehicles.
Regarding facilities, the Salou City Council plans to build a new block of facilities in the new public square that will open in front of the Torre Vella. This square will become the nerve center of the civic axis and will house a large cultural center with a new library and a museum space dedicated to local history.
