Salou strengthens its tourism model by joining the Biosphere project

The municipality commits to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and responsible management of the territory and heritage.

Pere Granados, Mayor of Salou, signed the Commitment Letter for Sustainable Tourism of the Biosphere project, formalizing the municipality's adherence to a responsible tourism management model.

The signing ceremony took place at the Salou City Council, attended by Patricio Azcárate Díaz de Losada, Secretary General of the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), the entity promoting this international certification. This adherence reinforces the commitment to balanced tourism aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The signed Commitment Letter establishes a framework of principles based on key international declarations, such as the UNESCO Declaration on Cultural Diversity, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, and the World Sustainable Tourism Charter +20.
The document recognizes the need to address current challenges like environmental preservation, cultural heritage protection (especially intangible heritage), and active local community involvement. Salou assumes concrete commitments to promote green, inclusive, and low-carbon economies, utilizing new technologies for heritage valuation.
