The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has released a provisional report on road accidents in Catalonia up to September 30th, indicating a 16% decrease in fatalities compared to the same period last year. There were 95 deaths in 91 fatal accidents, compared to 113 deaths in 105 accidents in 2025. In comparison to 2019, a reference year for reduction targets, the number of fatalities has decreased by 41, or 30%.
Regarding serious injuries, 561 cases have been recorded, representing a 15% decrease from the 661 cases in the same period last year. Of the 95 fatalities, 77 were men and 18 were women. September recorded 10 fatalities, five fewer than in September of the previous year.
The SCT calls for prudence and shared responsibility among all road users to curb accident rates, emphasizing the importance of avoiding risk factors such as inappropriate speed, distractions, and the consumption of alcohol or drugs.
Vulnerable road users account for 57% of the fatalities. Of the 95 deaths, 36 were motorcyclists, 9 were pedestrians, and 9 were cyclists. Collectively, these users represent 54 deaths. The SCT urges motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to increase their risk perception and other users to maintain respectful and prudent behavior.
Fatal accidents remain dispersed, although notable roads include the AP-7 (12 deaths), the A-2, N-340, and N-260 (4 each), and the C-25 (3 deaths). The most frequent accident types were run-off-road incidents (30) and head-on collisions (28).
By age group, the most affected is 45 to 54 years old, with 22 fatalities. There is also an increase in fatalities among those over 65, rising from 17 to 22.
By province, Barcelona accounts for 38 fatalities, with a 25.5% reduction. Baix Llobregat is the county with the most deaths (9). In Tarragona, 20 deaths have been recorded, a 17% decrease, with a notable reduction in AP-7 victims in that section. Girona has seen 23 fatalities (7 more than the previous year), with La Selva being the most affected county (8). In Lleida, 14 people have died, eight fewer than in 2025, with La Noguera being the county with the most victims (4).
