The episode of intense rainfall will begin on Thursday morning and is expected to last approximately 24 hours. Showers could locally exceed 40 l/m² in 30 minutes and are predicted to move slowly or remain stationary, leading to significant accumulations. In the Terres de l’Ebre region, accumulations of over 90 l/m² are expected during the night from Thursday to Friday.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) forecasts the most adverse period to be on Thursday afternoon, between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with storms spreading across various parts of the territory. The most intense precipitation will be concentrated in Catalunya Central, particularly in the regions of Osona, Bages, and Moianès, as well as in southern Catalonia. By evening, the risk will decrease in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees but will remain high in the Terres de l’Ebre.
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) is focusing its attention on the Terres de l’Ebre, where the terrain and the potential for stationary storms could lead to rapid responses from rivers, streams, and ravines. The Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) is maintaining surveillance on the lower stretch of the Ebro River; while significant impacts on the main course are not anticipated, sudden rises in smaller watercourses are expected.
Civil Protection urges the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid streams, ravines, fords, underpasses, and other low-lying areas, and not to cross flooded zones on foot or by vehicle. It is recommended to follow the evolution of the meteorological forecast.
