The incident occurred during a police checkpoint set up by the Mossos d'Esquadra, as part of a campaign by the Servei Català de Trànsit to monitor passive safety on the road. The bus, which was heading towards Tarragona, was stopped at a bus stop in front of a campsite.
Officers observed that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and that his speech suggested he had consumed alcohol. After subjecting him to an alcohol test, the result was 0.81 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air.
“"This amount is five times the legal limit for professional drivers, which is 0.15 mg/l."
Given the two serious infractions and the risk posed to passengers, officers proceeded to arrest the driver, accused of a crime against road safety. The company responsible for the route had to deploy a substitute driver to complete the journey and ensure that the six passengers reached their destinations.
