The parking facility, located next to the railway terminal, is provisional and has been conditioned on adjacent land. This action, operational since mid-January 2026, seeks to offer a free alternative to travelers, who until now only had access to a paid parking lot.
The lack of free options had led to a common practice of irregular parking on the shoulder of the access road for years, generating safety problems and, according to sources, resulting in repeated thefts inside vehicles. With the opening of this new space, ADIF has prohibited parking outside the designated areas through specific signage and the placement of physical elements.
Although already operational, the provisional space is still pending essential improvements, such as the installation of video surveillance systems, better lighting, and reinforced interior and exterior signage to ensure user safety.
This temporary solution is part of the planning for a definitive low-cost parking lot, which is expected to have around 600 spaces. The definitive project, promoted by the Government, will be accompanied by new road actions, including the construction of a roundabout to connect the parking lot with a new road section and facilitate access from the TP-2031. The tender for this road infrastructure was carried out this same month of January.
