This growth is based on three key factors: the surge in crude oil, the cereal harvest, and the increasing importance of chemical products and biofuels. Bulk liquids, which constitute 64.8% of the accumulated traffic, moved 1.74 million tons in September (+11.2%), reaching a total of 14.86 million for the year (+6.1%).
Among liquids, crude oil was the month's main driver, with 891,898 tons handled, a 37.9% increase from September 2025. Year-to-date, crude oil is up 2.9% (6.79 million tons), remaining the Port's primary commodity (29.6% of traffic). Derivatives such as fuel oil (+38.9% accumulated) and other petroleum products (+87.1%) also saw significant increases. The chemicals, biofuels, and other liquids group reached 2.99 million tons, its best performance in three years.
In the dry bulk sector, cereals, feed, and flour handled 738,010 tons in September (+39.2%), accounting for 82% of the month's dry bulk. Cereals and their flours alone amounted to 638,636 tons (+50.6%), becoming the Port's second-largest category with 3.37 million tons year-to-date (+10.4%). Overall, dry bulk cargo grew by 8.7% in the accumulated figures.
General cargo saw a strong rebound of 19.4% in September (200,625 tons), although it is the only major group not showing positive figures year-to-date. Commodities such as biofuels (+151.1%) and chemical products (+3.8%) significantly contribute to the Port's growth.
Land access registered 221,758 vehicle movements in September (+8.9%), totaling 1.88 million for the year (+5.1%). The number of vessels received by September reached 1,670, a 2.3% increase compared to 2025. The Port of Tarragona ranks third among Spanish port systems in accumulated traffic growth up to August, with 6.3%, surpassed only by the Ports of Bilbao and Castellón.
