Firefighters and Local Police in Tarragona rescued several drivers trapped in overflowing stream beds during the weekend of January 18 due to Storm Harris.

The first 48 hours of persistent rainfall in the province of Tarragona, caused by Storm Harris, tested the prudence of drivers. Firefighters and local police forces had to act quickly in several spots where stream beds, which had been dry just hours before, experienced significant flooding.
The recklessness of crossing fords with only a few centimeters of water was the main mistake. The most notable incidents were recorded at the Riera de Alforja, in the municipality of Alforja, and the Riera de Maspujols, near the Molí de la Torre urbanization, in Cambrils.

Authorities remind the public that crossing a stream bed during a storm is an act of recklessness and a completely unnecessary risk to personal safety and the rescue teams.

In total, three vehicles were trapped, although no one was injured. This unnecessary risk not only forced the mobilization of rescue teams but also resulted in penalties. In the case of Cambrils, the fine for endangering people and vehicles can reach 500 euros, in addition to the material damage to the vehicles.
