Intense precipitation could begin in the morning along the coast and pre-coast of Tarragona and Barcelona, affecting areas from Baix Camp to Selva. According to the latest updates from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC), this episode could already be intense between 8 AM and 2 PM.
From midday onwards, showers and storms will spread across various parts of the territory, concentrating mainly in the regions of Catalunya Central, Ponent, Tarragona, and Ebre. Towards the evening and early morning, the Terres de l'Ebre could see the most significant accumulations.
The showers are expected to be irregularly distributed, with the possibility of thunderstorms, hail, or large hailstones. The slow or stationary movement of the precipitation could lead to substantial accumulations in a short time. Therefore, the SMC has also issued warnings for the potential to exceed 60 l/m² in three hours in the same areas affected by the 30-minute intensity warning.
This afternoon, a front from the west has already brought significant rainfall, such as the 26 l/m² recorded in 30 minutes in Tàrrega or 23 l/m² in Sant Martí de Riucorb (Urgell). Currently, this front mainly affects the north of Catalunya Central.
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) is paying close attention to the Terres de l'Ebre, where the terrain and the potential for stationary storms could cause rapid responses in rivers, streams, and ravines. In the Pyrenees, the lower accumulation of recent rain aids infiltration and initially reduces the hydrological risk.
The Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) maintains surveillance on the lower stretch of the Ebro River. Although no significant impacts are expected on the main course, intense rainfall could cause sudden rises in smaller watercourses and tributaries.
Civil Protection recommends monitoring the meteorological forecast and exercising extreme caution, especially in areas where the most intense showers occur. It is advisable to avoid ravines, dry riverbeds, fords, underpasses, and other low-lying points, and not to cross flooded areas on foot or by vehicle.
