The Port of Tarragona joined the Association for the Metropolitan Impulse on Monday, February 9, establishing a space for supramunicipal consensus to drive the strategic agenda of Camp de Tarragona.

The signing of the collaboration protocol formalizes the commitment between both organizations to work together on the metropolitan project deployment. Santiago Castellà, President of the Port Authority, highlighted the Port's historical vocation as a gateway for goods, asserting that its metropolitan dimension is crucial for the business development of cities like Reus, Valls, and the Terres de l'Ebre.

"The Port should not make its decisions autonomously, but rather serve a territory that must have consensus spaces to articulate its political agenda."

Santiago Castellà · President of the Port Authority
The metropolitan entity, established in late October 2025, currently includes the municipalities of La Canonja, Tarragona, Reus, Valls, Constantí, Cambrils, and Salou. Castellà stated that the Port is the "ideal" space for political consensus due to its "more depoliticized, non-partisan condition."

"It is a firm step in building a shared vision of the territory."

Roc Muñoz · President of the Metropolitan Impulse Association
Roc Muñoz, President of the Association, emphasized that the Port's incorporation is "much more than a formal agreement," providing solidity and credibility to the initiative. The new protocol mandates the creation of a Monitoring Commission to develop a shared work plan and advance projects in key areas such as territorial planning and strategic infrastructure.
