Tarragonès Awards 2024: Dani Espasa and Xavier Grasset Honored

The Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès has held the 2024 Tarragonès Awards ceremony, this year in La Nou de Gaià, recognizing the career of musician Dani Espasa Canadell and journalist Xavier Grasset Forester.

The Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès has presented its annual awards in a ceremony held at the Casal Municipal of La Nou de Gaià. The event, aimed at promoting culture and serving the region's municipalities, was sponsored by REPSOL. The gala, designed by stage director Marc Chornet and hosted by members of the company Projecte Ingenu with music by Gerard Marsal, paid tribute to the traditional turns of the Tarragonès region.
In the XXIV edition of the Lucius Anneus Florus Creation Award, intended to recognize artistic careers, the jury, composed of Rosa Comes (Tarragona Provincial Council), Francesc Roig (Centre d’Estudis Canongins), Francesc Perramón (Art School of the Provincial Council), Dolors Saumell (Tarragona Public Library), Salvador Ferré (president of CCT), and Josepa Figueras (CCT Culture Commission), unanimously awarded the prize to musician Dani Espasa Canadell. The jury highlighted his creativity, rigor, versatility as a multi-instrumentalist, director, composer, arranger, producer, and professor, establishing him as an indispensable reference in the Catalan and European music scene. The award was presented by Joan Martí Pla, president of the Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès.
Regarding the XXIV Eutyches Diffusion Award, which recognizes efforts in cultural, environmental, or heritage dissemination within the territory, the jury, comprising Jaume Garcia (Tots21), Rosa Maria Ibarz (CNLT), Carles Magrané (DiariMés), M. Elena Virgili (Municipal Archive of Tarragona), Salvador Ferré, and Josepa Figueras, honored journalist and communicator Xavier Grasset Forester. His solid career and commitment to the region were recognized, giving voice to local issues despite his national career. Ms. Josepa Figueras, mayor of La Nou de Gaià, presented the award.
These two awards are creations by artist Rafael Bartolozzi.
Finally, in the XXVI Lucius Licinius Sura Research Grant, endowed with €2,450 and including publication of the work, the jury consisting of Salvador Anton, Montserrat Duch, Anna I. Serra (URV), Antoni Virgili (UAB), Joan Martí Pla, and Josepa Figueras, awarded the grant to Carlos Terrón Vasco for his project 'Els comuns i les universitats al Baix Gaià al segle XVII'. Mr. Francisco Montoya, Head of Relations with the Environment at the Repsol Industrial Complex in Tarragona, presented the grant.
