The Head of Forecasting at Meteocat, Santi Segalà, warned that the episode will be especially complicated in the eastern half of Catalonia, the coast, and the pre-coastal areas, driven by maritime winds bringing humidity and heavy rainfall. This adverse situation, which has already left between 70 and 100 liters in Tarragona and the Pyrenees, is expected to worsen significantly.
Forecasts indicate that between 150 and 200 liters could accumulate in the northeast of Catalonia, while Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre will exceed 100 liters. Regarding snow, accumulations of 40 centimeters are expected above 1,400 meters and more than 80 centimeters above 2,000 meters.
Starting Monday, a depression in the Mediterranean will cause a major maritime storm, compared to 70% of the Gloria storm. Waves may exceed 2 meters along the entire Catalan coast, becoming particularly severe on the Costa Brava and the central coast, where they could reach 4 meters in height.
“"We may issue a massive alert if these meteorological effects are confirmed and the danger level is 5 or 6."
In light of this situation, Protecció Civil maintains the Inuncat and Neucat plans on alert, and is monitoring the reservoirs of Siurana, the Pyrenees, and Ter, where preventive water releases have already been carried out. Extreme vigilance is requested in areas near rivers and caution on high mountain roads, as the risk of rock or tree slides is high due to soil saturation.
