The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Catalan Meteorological Service) issued an orange alert for intense rain in the south of the region, forecasting intensity exceeding 20 liters per square meter in 30 minutes and an accumulation of over 100 liters in 24 hours. Due to this forecast, Protecció Civil activated the INUNCAT alert, which remained in effect until 8:15 PM.
A warning was sent to mobile phones in the area, advising residents to avoid travel and not to cross rivers or ravines. The Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters) received eight calls in Montsià, mostly in Alcanar, related to water entering basements and parking lots, and issues with the sewage system. The 112 emergency line received about twenty calls.
The heavy rainfall forced the suspension of educational activities at the Escola Municipal de Música d'Alcanar, and led to the closure of the libraries in Alcanar and Les Cases, the CEM Fanecada, and other sports and municipal facilities.
Several roads were cut off. Access to Les Cases was closed via the Camí de les Cases and the Camí de Virol. Traffic was also interrupted on the N-340 accessing Alcanar, the bypass, and on the TP-3318 (between Ulldecona and Alcanar) and TP-3311 (between Santa Bàrbara and La Galera).
This marks the third consecutive day of incidents caused by Storm Emilia in the province of Tarragona. On Monday, Falset (in Priorat) recorded over 200 liters per square meter, the highest figure in Catalonia in 19 years, leading to class cancellations at Escola Priorat. On Tuesday, rain affected areas like Miami Platja, which registered over 80 liters per square meter.
