The Tarragona Provincial Council has announced an injection of an additional 15 million euros for municipalities in the region, aiming to mitigate the increase in current expenditure and municipal underfunding.

This extraordinary measure is added to the ImpulsDipta Plan, raising its total budget to 177 million euros for the 2024-2027 period. Each local council will receive an additional 10% over the already assigned amount, ensuring that no municipality receives less than 50,000 euros.

"Municipalities have a root problem in underfunding. We demand that they receive more income from the Generalitat and the State."

Noemí Llauradó · President of the Tarragona Provincial Council
The president of the entity, Noemí Llauradó, emphasized that these funds will help ease the financial pressure on local councils, which can allocate them to personnel expenses, current assets, services, and bank interest. The allocation comes from the Provincial Council's budget surpluses from 2025.
The inclusion of this allocation will be made through a credit modification expected to be approved in the April plenary session. Subsequently, municipalities can request the funds by presenting a secretariat or intervention certificate, with transfers expected to be effective by autumn. The distribution criterion will follow the ImpulsDipta Plan model, which prioritizes smaller and less populated localities.
The ImpulsDipta Plan already includes a specific program for financing current municipal expenditure. During 2024 and 2025, 16.5 million euros have already been allocated for this purpose, and an additional contribution of 20.7 million euros is planned for 2026 and 2027. In total, the plan will mobilize over 52 million euros for current municipal expenditure over a four-year period.
