The Torredembarra City Council has launched the second phase of its new waste collection contract, which includes the expansion of the door-to-door system and a public information campaign.

The campaign, named «Cuidem la Torre, reciclem millor» (Let's care for Torre, let's recycle better), aims to explain the changes in the service and the functioning of the new model. This phase will involve expanding the door-to-door system to the Àmfores and Marítima Residencial areas, renewing collection materials where it is already implemented, and improving the human and material resources for the service.
The rollout, presented by Mayor Raúl García, councilors Angie Muñoz and Xavier Suárez, Prezero's delegate for Southern Catalonia and Aragon, César González, and representatives from the environmental consultancy Arum, anticipates that the new system in Àmfores will begin on January 11 and in Marítima Residencial from April. This will increase coverage from 4,008 to 5,807 homes for door-to-door collection, a 44% increase.
In the rest of the municipality, the service will continue with open containers, which will also be renewed. The municipal goal is to reach 60% selective waste collection by 2030, thus complying with European directives. Currently, Torredembarra selectively collects only 37.32% of its waste.
To encourage participation, open information sessions for citizens will be held on November 10, 12, and 14 at the Espai Cultural Sala del Mar and Cal Maiam. The distribution of new materials will take place from November 17 to January 9 at the municipal warehouse on carrer de les Escoles, 344T.
The second phase also includes an increase in staff, from 24 to 33 workers, and a renewal of the vehicle fleet, which will grow from 10 to 18, with over 50% being electric or hybrid vehicles to reduce polluting emissions and noise.
