The Association of Municipalities for Independence (AMI) presented the Municipis per la Llengua platform this Thursday in Agramunt, aiming to establish specific Catalan language departments in local governments.

The project encourages town halls to create dedicated council seats for Catalan Language policies. Salvador Coll, president of the AMI, explained that the goal is to lead and coordinate these municipal areas to strengthen the language across the territory.

"With the AMI, what we want is to order, organize, and lead this coordination of language departments."

The initiative will reach a milestone on May 23rd in Sant Cugat del Vallès with the presentation of the Local Pact for the Language. This agreement will provide tools for promoting Catalan in public procurement and local media.
The event took place in Agramunt (Urgell) because its town hall already features a specific language department. Mayor Sílvia Fernàndez highlighted that this area, led by Mònica Marquilles, is essential for social cohesion and the town's civic commitment.
