The Andorran Government is working to secure a specific date for its recognition as part of the Schengen area to prevent systematic border checks when the new EES system begins.

Spokesman Minister Guillem Casal explained that while negotiations with the European Commission have concluded, bilateral talks with Spain and France are ongoing. The goal is to ensure that the Entry/Exit System remains manageable for the country's unique border situation.

"We want to guarantee border controls as we have them today."

The Entry/Exit System aims to modernize border security using biometric data, replacing traditional passport stamps with digital records. Andorra aims to be a 'Schengen space without being one' to maintain the current flow of visitors and residents.
