Physiotherapist Bart Loomans, originally from Hoorn (Netherlands), recalls his early days in Tàrrega in 1983, when the profession was virtually unknown in the city and the Urgell region.

Bart Loomans ended up in Catalonia by chance after a rainy holiday in France led him to Oliana. There he met Mercè, his partner, which prompted his move. He chose Tàrrega after noticing a significant market gap, as the number of physiotherapists per inhabitant was much lower than in the Netherlands.

"In Holland there was one physiotherapist for every 2,000 inhabitants; here, one for every 200,000. The market study was already done!"

During his first years in the capital of Urgell, Loomans had to introduce the concept of physiotherapy to the local community. He fondly remembers former mayor Eugeni Nadal, who insisted on speaking to him only in Catalan, helping him master the language.
