An agricultural fire has burned 38.6 hectares between the villages of Santa Maria de Montmagastrell and Claravalls, in Urgell. The blaze, which started at 10:42 AM, required a large deployment from the Generalitat Firefighters.

The fire originated in the area known as Els Plans and spread rapidly due to dry vegetation and unharvested cereal fields. High temperatures and low humidity fueled the flames, complicating extinction efforts. Emergency teams worked to contain the fire's head and prevent it from reaching new agricultural areas. The right flank was stabilized relatively quickly, preventing the fire from approaching the C-14 road.
The intervention of aerial resources was decisive in reducing the fire's intensity. Around 1:00 PM, once the situation was stabilized, helicopters and planes returned to their bases. Subsequently, the operation was reduced to 15 ground crews who continued to secure the perimeter and extinguish hot spots to prevent flare-ups. The collaboration of local farmers, creating safety strips, was also key. The fire was declared under control after 7:00 PM.
Initially, the possibility of confining Santa Maria via a mobile alert was considered. Ultimately, the Tàrrega Local Police recommended by loudspeaker that residents remain in their homes until 1:00 PM as a precaution due to smoke. The Mossos d'Esquadra secured the perimeter for safety reasons. The mayor of Tàrrega highlighted the rapid intervention of the Firefighters.

"The rapid intervention of the Firefighters prevented greater damage."

The investigation by the Rural Agents points to a breakdown in a baling machine as the possible cause. Additionally, other minor fires occurred yesterday in Castelló de Farfanya, Pinós, and Alpicat, where a harvester caused a 2.7-hectare fire.
