The La Seu d'Urgell City Council has given initial approval to the project for a new elderly residence, a facility that will include 90 residential places, 16 sheltered apartments, and 40 day-care spots.

The decision was made unanimously during the plenary session held this Monday evening. This infrastructure, long demanded in the municipality, will be located in Horta del Valira and represents a significant step towards improving care services in the town.

"This stage of life is as dignified as possible."

The estimated cost of the residential facility is between 16 and 17 million euros, an investment considered essential to ensure the dignity of users in this stage of life. The document is expected to receive final approval during May and will subsequently be transferred to the Department of Social Rights.

"It is they who have committed to carrying out the tender, so now another task begins, which is to pursue Social Rights, because unfortunately the budget project we worked on in Parliament, the La Seu residence was not included, so we will see if it is in these new budgets."

Despite widespread enthusiasm, an opposition spokesperson has indicated that persistent work will be needed to ensure the project is included in the new budgets of the Department of Social Rights, as it was not in the previous draft. All municipal groups have celebrated this progress, the result of many years of demands.
A spokesperson for another political group recalled the various actions taken to demand the facility, including obtaining 3 million euros in a budget negotiation with the state government and presenting signatures to Parliament. Another spokesperson highlighted the difficulties often caused by excessive bureaucracy in vital projects for the city.
The plenary session was attended by members of the La Seu Residence Platform, which has been fighting for the construction of this new facility for six years.
