La Seu d'Urgell is set to host the XVII Fira del Món Geganter this weekend, bringing together over 60 'colles' (giant figure groups) and twenty exhibitors in a celebration rich in history and symbolism.

The event, taking place on April 17, 18, and 19, coincides with significant milestones for the city: its fifteenth anniversary as a Ciutat Gegantera (Giant Figure City) and the thirty-fifth anniversary of the first giant figures gathering in the town.
The program will commence on Friday, April 17, at 8:00 PM with an official reception at the La Seu Town Hall. Subsequently, in the Plaça dels Oms, a welcome will be extended to the Gegants de Catalunya, Treball and Cultura, along with this year's guests of honor: the Colla Gegantera de Caldes de Malavella (Ciutat Gegantera 2025), the giants from Cintruénigo (Navarra), and the 'colla' from Manlleu. Traditional music by Duo Pirineus will entertain the evening, which will culminate with a parade to Plaça Joan Sansa, featuring dances and a concert by the Orquestrina Trama at 10:30 PM.
Saturday, April 18, will begin with a firecracker wake-up call at eight in the morning and the official inauguration of the Espai Firal at ten. Throughout the day, there will be dance workshops with Pep Lizandra, storytelling sessions, and technical talks, including one by giant figure builder Pau Reig. The day will conclude with the show Arrels, històries gegants! at the Patí de la Catedral and a night parade.
Sunday, April 19, will feature the grand 'plantada de gegants' (giant figures display) at 9:00 AM, showcasing newly unveiled or restored figures. The festive weekend will conclude with a general parade through the city and a grand closing celebration in the Plaça dels Oms at 1:00 PM.
Within the framework of this fair, Adifolk will officially announce on Saturday, April 18, the groups that will represent Catalan popular culture this summer at the 38th Adifolk-Stockholm International Gathering 2026. The event will be hosted by Oriol Ramírez and will feature the 'capgròs' (big-head figure) Folk.
