The Mayor of Tàrrega, Alba Pijuan, lost a crucial confidence vote this Wednesday regarding the 2026 municipal budget after failing to gain opposition support in the local council.

The governing coalition of ERC and PSC only secured six votes, while eleven councilors from Junts per Tàrrega and CUP voted against the motion. This marks the first time in the town's democratic history that such a vote has taken place.
Under current regulations, the budget will be automatically approved on March 26 unless the opposition presents a successful motion of censure with an alternative candidate within one month. Junts and CUP have already begun talks to explore a potential new government.

"Without a budget, Tàrrega stands still. No investments or new contracts can be made."
