The Mayor of Tàrrega, Alba Pijuan Vallverdú, has called for an extraordinary session on February 25 to face a vote of confidence tied to the approval of the 2026 municipal budget.

The move follows the rejection of the budget proposal by the local council, where the governing coalition of ERC and PSC was outvoted by Junts per Tàrrega and CUP. The Mayor stated that this legal procedure is necessary to avoid paralyzing the city's investments and services.

"We have two options. On one hand, paralyzing the city with prorogued budgets. Or, on the other hand, linking the budget to a vote of confidence to continue working for the residents. It is risky, but we believe it is best for the city."

The proposed 2026 budget stands at a record 24.3 million euros, featuring 3.8 million euros for infrastructure modernization. If the Mayor loses the vote, the opposition has one month to propose an alternative candidate via a censure motion; otherwise, the budget is automatically approved.
