The Mayor of Tàrrega, Alba Pijuan, announced on Friday that she will undergo a vote of confidence on February 25 to secure the 2026 municipal budget.

The move follows the rejection of the budget by Junts and CUP during a recent plenary session. The minority government, led by ERC and PSC, aims to unlock 24.3 million euros in funding, the highest in the history of the Urgell capital, focusing on housing and security.

"There are two options: stay as we are with a frozen budget and a paralyzed city, or link the budget to a confidence motion to move forward with the citizens."

Under local law, if the mayor loses the vote, the opposition has one month to propose an alternative government through a censure motion. If no such motion succeeds, the budget will be automatically approved, a strategy recently used in other cities like Lleida.
