The Catalan Government confirmed the detection of a new case of avian influenza in a poultry farm in Urgell, 3 kilometers from the initial Bellpuig focus, requiring the immediate culling of 9,000 birds.

The affected farm, identified through preventive analyses within the control radius, immediately activated the current sanitary protocol. This protocol mandates the culling of the 9,000 animals to contain and eradicate the recently detected outbreak, along with cleaning and disinfection tasks.
Following this new detection, the Department has established a new 10-kilometer surveillance radius around the affected farm. This expansion increases the number of affected municipalities by four: Bellvís, La Fuliola, Linyola, and El Poal, and requires the inspection of four additional farms.
Regarding human health, coordination has been activated with the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital to conduct preventive monitoring of workers on farms included in the surveillance radii. The Government reiterates that the consumption of poultry meat and eggs poses no risk to human health.
In addition to avian flu, the Department continues to manage other health crises. A sanctioning file will be opened for a case of Lumpy Skin Disease (DNC) on a farm that failed to complete mandatory vaccination before January 31. Efforts are also maintained to contain African Swine Fever (ASF), which totals 47 cases detected in wild boars.
