The snowfall, which began overnight and lasted until noon, left snow depths of up to 10 centimeters in areas such as Rocallaura, according to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat). Despite the picturesque winter landscape, most municipalities in L'Urgell avoided serious incidents thanks to the rapid action of municipal brigades and volunteers spreading salt.
In Tàrrega, the snow coincided with the weekly market, which saw a reduction in the number of stalls. Regarding traffic, the Servei Català de Trànsit decreed the mandatory use of snow chains on the C-14 between Ciutadilla and Solivella. Problems were also recorded on secondary roads like the LP-2041 in Bellpuig and the L-234 between Ciutadilla and Guimerà.
The main complication occurred on the A-2 motorway, near Fonolleres (Segarra), where two accidents collapsed the road from 8:30 AM until almost 11:00 AM. Many vehicles were trapped in the stretch between Tàrrega and Cervera, including some snowplows that were also blocked in the congestion.
The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) had to redirect traffic onto the side lane to allow access for emergency services and clear the roadway. Furthermore, the Bombers (Firefighters) reported that a snowplow overturned on the C-14 in Tàrrega shortly before 11 AM, although the driver was able to exit the vehicle unassisted and was unharmed.
