The city of Tàrrega commemorates Historical Memory Week from May 22nd to 28th with a program of activities including guided tours of key sites and the presentation of new publications.

Historical Memory Week arrives in Tàrrega from May 22nd to 28th, featuring a series of events organized by the Tàrrega Urgell Museum and the Department of Historical Memory, with the collaboration of Mas de Colom – Casa Borges. The aim is to keep alive the memory of events related to the Civil War and Francoist repression through guided tours, book presentations, and reenactments.
The program will kick off on Friday, May 22nd, with the presentation of the photo book “Maybe never again” by Espe Pons at the Tàrrega Urgell Museum. The work focuses on the participation of foreign women, such as doctors, nurses, and volunteer journalists, in the fight against fascism during the Civil War.
During the weekend, tours will be offered at emblematic memory sites. On Saturday, May 23rd, and Sunday, May 24th, the Pou de Gel (Ice Well), used as an air-raid shelter during the war, will open its doors. On Saturday, May 23rd, at 6:00 PM, the Tàrrega Cemetery will be visited, including the mass grave of bombing victims and the recently dignified tombs of two international brigadistas. Advance booking is required for these tours.
Mas de Colom – Casa Borges will host the historical reenactment “Memòries d’un hospital a Mas de Colom” (Memories of a hospital at Mas de Colom), illustrating how the building served as a field hospital. This free activity, requiring advance booking, is supported by the Tàrrega City Council, Òmnium Cultural, and the Ejército del Ebro group, with 12 sessions scheduled for May 23rd and 24th.
On Sunday, May 24th, at 10:00 AM, an itinerary will follow the Stolpersteine Route, starting from the Plaça Major. This walk will highlight the nine 'stumbling stones' placed in tribute to Tàrrega residents deported to concentration camps, marking the Day of Historical and Democratic Memory in Tàrrega.
The week will conclude on Thursday, May 28th, with the presentation of a publication on the International Brigades and the hospital at Mas de Colom. The volume, part of Òmnium Cultural's '(Re)voltes' project, includes articles by local historian Jaume Ramon Solé on the brigadistas' stay, the operation of the military hospital, and the deaths of two international brigadistas. The event will take place at the Tàrrega Urgell Museum.
