The city of Tàrrega celebrated Catalonia's National Day today with the traditional floral offering at Rafael Casanova square. The event was attended by the city council, political parties, and about twenty associative entities, who laid floral offerings at the monument dedicated to the martyrs of 1714. The gathering brought together approximately 300 people.
The event began with a performance by three dancers from the Esbart Albada, who presented the Ball de l'Homenatge. Subsequently, the mayor Rosa Maria Perelló led the offering from the municipal groups of Junqueras per Tàrrega and CUP (governing team), as well as ERC and PSC (opposition), who presented a laurel wreath.
“"We must be firm: in the Catalonia we are building, there is no room for hatred. We unequivocally close the door to any exclusionary, racist, and fascist expression. Fascism is not an opinion, it is a threat to human rights and to democracy itself."
Following the mayor's speech, floral offerings were made by various entities from the political, cultural, sports, and social services sectors. The celebration was plural and reivindicative, also marked by a citizen gathering that displayed a banner and slogans against the far-right. The event concluded with the public's rendition of 'Els Segadors', conducted by Antoni Torres.
The celebration of National Day in Tàrrega is complemented by a wide range of cultural events, coinciding with the upcoming Aplec de Sant Eloi and FiraTàrrega. The cultural program, running from September 9th to 13th, includes activities such as a musical vermouth with Miki Puig and the group Fetus, and a concert by Ireix and DJ Ryna at the plaça de les Nacions sense Estat, organized by La Soll.
