Tàrrega City Council has approved the acceptance of painter Lluís Trepat's legacy, which includes one hundred artworks for the city's cultural heritage.

The city of Tàrrega has received a significant artistic legacy from local painter Lluís Trepat (1925-2022). The City Council approved last Thursday the acceptance of one hundred works, which will become part of the cultural heritage of the capital of Urgell. The collection includes oil paintings, prints, etchings, linocuts, and woodcuts.
The donation was made under the condition that a permanent exhibition space dedicated to Lluís Trepat's career be established. According to the municipal agreement, the Sala Fons d’Art Lluís Trepat will be created, planned for 2030 in the former residence of the Trepat factory, which currently houses the Museu Trepat. In the meantime, the works can be viewed on the second floor of the Museu Tàrrega Urgell.
Part of the legacy will be integrated into the permanent exhibition Forjant un sistema artístic (1875-1965). Unexhibited pieces will be kept in the museum's reserves, and restoration work will be carried out on those that require it.
The Councilor for Culture, Miquel Nadal, highlighted the importance of this artistic fund and recalled Lluís Trepat's role in introducing abstract art to the Terres de Lleida. Trepat is considered a key figure of the artistic avant-gardes of Lleida and a benchmark for 20th-century Catalan abstract art. Last year, Tàrrega commemorated the centenary of his birth.
