The city of Tàrrega has introduced a new educational and recreational proposal aimed at secondary school students: the ‘Reconstruïm Pedrolo’ school route. This initiative, a collaboration between the Museu Tàrrega Urgell and the Germanes Güell library, aims to connect the city's urban heritage with the literary creations of Manuel de Pedrolo, particularly his renowned novel Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen.
The itinerary invites students to explore various locations in Tàrrega closely associated with the writer's life. The Councillor for Culture, Miquel Nadal, highlighted that the route is "an opportunity to introduce Pedrolo to younger generations and continue promoting the author's work and figure," emphasizing its pedagogical and cultural value in promoting the Catalan language.
During the tour, which combines literature, history, and local heritage, student groups will solve enigmas and decipher codes related to the author and the plot of Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen. The novel is set in Benaura, a city inspired by Tàrrega. The activity has already been tested by students from Vedruna Tàrrega school with very positive results.
This new offering complements previous efforts to preserve Pedrolo's legacy in the capital of Urgell. Since 2023, the ‘Ruta Pedrolo’ has marked twelve key points in the urban area, linking Tàrrega's geography with selected fragments of the author's work and life. This route, open to the general public, is offered on the first Saturday of each month.
Furthermore, the City Council is working on the rehabilitation of the writer's former family home, donated by his daughter Adelais de Pedrolo. The future House Museum will house his personal library, containing approximately 12,000 volumes, as well as everyday objects and furniture.
The outreach efforts are further enhanced by lecture series such as ‘Revisitant Pedrolo’ and the co-organization of the ‘7lletres. Premi Manuel de Pedrolo de narrativa breu’, a cultural project that spans the Segarra and Urgell regions.
