Eighteen young people from the Urgell region took advantage of Holy Week to participate in an intensive fourteen-hour course, organized by the Urgell Youth Office and the Comarcal Council, to train as sound and lighting technicians.
This initiative, supported by Paupaterres Produccions and with the collaboration of the Anglesola City Council, which provided the library facilities, is part of the Joves en acció project. The main objective was to equip participants to identify the technical needs of a show and manage the necessary equipment for its execution.
During the four days of training, students delved into aspects such as different types of microphones and speakers, the use of both analog and digital soundboards, and creative lighting. Sergi Petit, the audiovisual trainer, emphasized the transversal nature of a technician's work, which requires knowledge of electricity, radiofrequency, structures, assembly, and safety.
“
"The technician's job is transversal: it combines knowledge of electricity, radiofrequency, and structures, in addition to assembly and safety in the use of materials."
Course places were limited to eighteen participants, but high demand, with nearly thirty registrations, suggests a second edition may be held. Petit highlighted the strong labor demand in this sector, where companies often seek professionals with practical experience and direct knowledge of equipment. This basic training can open doors to weekend or summer jobs, periods of increased cultural activity.
From Paupaterres Produccions, Marc Calderó underscored the importance of such initiatives in a region with a vibrant culture and great interest in the entertainment world. He noted that current events not only require artists but also extensive behind-the-scenes support work, including staging, props, sound, and lighting. Calderó particularly thanked the Urgell Youth Office for its involvement in offering useful training adapted to the needs of the local labor market.
“
"Today's events not only require artists, but also all the work that goes on behind the scenes: staging, props, sound, and light. This course is an opportunity to get started in a sector with a future."
