As is customary every Easter Sunday, the capital of Urgell will be filled with music with the performance of the Caramelles. The Coral Infantil Mestre Güell, a choir with a long history, will be in charge of keeping this deeply rooted tradition alive, offering a repertoire of typical festive songs.
The Coral Infantil Mestre Güell, founded in 1963 by Josep Cercós and Emília Rivera, was born with the mission of spreading the Caramelles and, since then, has established itself as a musical benchmark in Tàrrega.
The singing will begin on Sunday, April 5, at 10:15 AM in the Ateneu gardens. The route will include stops at Agoders street (10:35 AM), the Sant Antoni residence (10:45 AM), the Talladell church (11:45 AM), the Carme church (12:15 PM), the El Carme residence (12:30 PM), the Pati stairs (12:40 PM), and the Plaça Major (1:00 PM), to finish again in the Ateneu gardens around 1:30 PM. At the end of the cantata, a raffle of 'mones' will be held at the Ateneu.
The organization of the Caramelles is the result of collaboration between the Coral Infantil Mestre Güell and the Tàrrega City Council, with the support of the Esbart Albada and the pastry shops L'Antull, J. Jordana, Vilà, and Nicolau.
In addition to Tàrrega, other towns in Urgell will also celebrate Caramelles. In Castellserà, the Coral Flors d'Urgell will commemorate its centenary, and there will also be singing events in La Fuliola and Agramunt.
