The 37th edition of the City of Tàrrega Theatre Group Competition will take place at the Teatre Ateneu de Tàrrega over six consecutive Saturdays. The performances, all scheduled for 9:00 PM, feature a selection of six productions from groups hailing from various Catalan towns such as Granollers, Tordera, Blanes, and Fonollosa, offering a wide variety of genres.
The program begins on February 21 with the classic comedy EL TARTUF (The Hypocrite) by Molière, performed by Quatre per Quatre de Granollers. This is followed by the drama CARPE DIEM by Joan Gallart, a reinterpretation of the spirit of the film Dead Poets Society, presented by the Associació Cultural i Recreativa Pere Cot de Tordera. The comedy BABY SHOWER by Mar Puig is also included, staged by the Grup d’Amics del Teatre d’Ullastrell with an all-female cast, coinciding with the eve of March 8th.
Other notable proposals include REVERS, a collective creation comedy by El Mirall de Blanes that commemorates its 40th anniversary with a humorous take on menopause. The Grup de Teatre de l’Associació Cultural i Recreativa de Fals presents QUANT TEMPS EM QUEDA? (How Much Time Do I Have Left?), a play framed within the ‘Cap Butaca Buida’ campaign. Finally, ELS BOJOS DEL BISTURÍ (It Runs in the Family) by Ray Cooney, performed by the Grup de Teatre Faltagent de Fonollosa, will close the competition with a hospital farce that has already garnered several awards.
