After years of campaigning, the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients of Tàrrega and Comarca (AFATC) has seen its dream fulfilled with the inauguration of the Els Pilars center. The event, held this Wednesday, was attended by the Minister of Social Rights, Mònica Martínez Bravo, the Mayor of Tàrrega, Alba Pijuan, and the President of the Diputació de Lleida, Joan Talarn.
“"It is a source of pride and an honor to help build dreams for a stronger and fairer Catalonia, offering an excellent public service that improves user care close to home."
The building, which involved an investment exceeding 3 million euros, was primarily financed by the Generalitat (2.7 million) and the Diputació de Lleida (400,000 euros). The Tàrrega City Council ceded the 3,300 square meters of land and provided basic services. The center, with 1,126 square meters built, has been designed with sustainability criteria and high energy efficiency.
“"We inaugurate a collective commitment to the dignity, care, and memory of people."
The new facility, expected to become operational during the first quarter of 2026, will be able to accommodate over a hundred people, although it will initially open with 70 places. Currently, the AFATC serves about 60 users. The center not only cares for patients with Alzheimer's but also those with Parkinson's, Lewy Body Dementia, and other neurodegenerative pathologies from Urgell and neighboring regions such as Segarra, Pla d’Urgell, Noguera, and Segrià.
