Since 2015, the municipality has added 3,066 new residents, representing a total population increase of 18%. During 2025, the increase was 1.8%, slightly lower than the 2.4% registered the previous year.
Data from the latest register update shows that vegetative growth is also positive, with 172 births recorded during 2025, compared to 135 deaths. Regarding gender distribution, the population remains balanced with 9.847 men and 9.767 women.

"The high number of births in the city breaks with the current trend in the country. We are noticing this with the increase in child schooling, which will lead to an increase in school lines."

Alba Pijuan Vallverdú · Mayor of Tàrrega
The demographic increase is also explained by the arrival of foreign population. Currently, Tàrrega hosts 5.328 residents of foreign origin, representing 27.17% of the register. Up to 74 different nationalities coexist, the most numerous being from Morocco (1.939 inhabitants), followed by Romania (810) and Ukraine (644).
Mayor Alba Pijuan Vallverdú noted that, if the trend continues, the city could reach 20,000 inhabitants in one or two years. This would allow Tàrrega to access more municipal competencies, funding, and aid, as it would move into the range of cities between 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants.
