Castellbisbal closes 2025 with slight unemployment increase despite positive annual Catalan data

The Vallès Occidental region registered an increase of 381 unemployed people in December, breaking the positive trend of the year.

The Minister of Business and Labor, Miquel Sàmper, highlighted the strong close of the 2025 financial year in Catalonia, although December data showed a spike in unemployment in Vallès Occidental and Castellbisbal.

Minister Miquel Sàmper, accompanied by the Secretary of Labor, Paco Ramos, and the head of the Observatory of Labor and Productive Model, Manuela Redondo, emphasized that Catalonia ended 2025 with a decrease of 11,959 registered unemployed people (-3.6%). This global figure of 323,236 unemployed is the lowest recorded in a December since 2007.

Despite the positive annual trend, the month of December registered an increase in unemployment of 1,860 people (+0.6%) in Catalonia. This spike particularly affected Vallès Occidental, which added 381 new unemployed people to the regional total, closing the year with 41,574 unemployed and a registered rate of 8.54%.
In Castellbisbal, unemployment grew by 8 people, closing 2025 with 490 unemployed and a rate of 6.86%. Only six localities in Vallès Occidental avoided the increase in December: Palau-solità, Polinyà, Rellinars, Ripollet, Santa Perpètua (with a reduction of 13) and Ullastrell (with 7 fewer).
