The Castellbisbal Town Council has opened a new pedestrian passage connecting Carrer Major and Carrer de Sant Lluc, following the demolition of a deteriorated property, addressing a long-standing historical demand.
This opening was made possible by the demolition of the property located at Carrer Major, number 1, a building that the Council had expropriated decades ago specifically to establish this connection. The structure was in an advanced state of deterioration, a situation that worsened with heavy rains last March, causing a partial roof collapse.
“
"After decades of waiting, the opening of this passage not only improves accessibility between two very central streets, but also dignifies the entire area and responds to a historical demand from the municipality."
Given the infeasibility of consolidating the structure and considering that the property was classified in the POUM (General Urban Planning Plan) as part of the road system, the Town Council proceeded with its demolition. Once the works were completed, the area was paved and equipped with new street furniture, public lighting, and a fountain.
“
"Beyond being a historical request, the building posed a safety risk. Furthermore, this action also addresses neighborhood complaints about water leaks affecting nearby homes."
The entire project, including demolition, paving, and installation of new services, incurred a total cost of 125,376.98 euros for the municipal coffers of Castellbisbal.
