A large sinkhole opened up on Esports street in Castellbisbal last Saturday, January 24, shortly after 10:20 PM, swallowing a vehicle that was parked in the area.

The Bombers de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Firefighters) were alerted to the incident and deployed a unit to assess the collapse. Emergency services and the Castellbisbal Local Police immediately cordoned off the risk zone.
According to the Bombers, several water pipes run through the affected area, causing the hole to flood. Although nearby medium-voltage lines were present, they were not affected, and fortunately, no one was injured.

"It is a point where water is collected, and it seems the collector has collapsed and broken."

Maria Dolors Conde Domínguez · Mayor of Castellbisbal
As a consequence of the sinkhole, the machinery room of the Illa Esportiva summer pool has also been affected. Technicians from the water company and the City Council continue to work to remedy the hole, while the street remains closed to traffic.

"It is not a tourist attraction; it is a risk zone. We take this opportunity to raise awareness among everyone around us not to approach."

José Goberna Díaz · Councillor
