The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) has issued warnings for intense heat and high nighttime temperatures in Sant Quirze del Vallès and other parts of Catalonia. Forecasts indicate that the established thresholds for these episodes will be surpassed.
In Sant Quirze, daily maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 37.2 °C, with nighttime lows potentially reaching 22.9 °C. These values will trigger the intense heat warning for both this Thursday afternoon and tomorrow, Friday, August 14th.
According to the SMC, these thresholds represent the 98th percentile of temperatures recorded in the town during summers over the last 15 years, identifying particularly intense heat episodes that are exceeded on only about 2% of summer days.
In light of this situation, the public is advised to exercise extreme caution, especially children, the elderly, and vulnerable individuals. Frequent hydration, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak heat hours, and keeping homes as cool as possible are recommended.
The City Council also reminds residents of the network of climate shelters in Sant Quirze del Vallès as spaces to combat the high temperatures.
